Most Muslim coverage 'negative'

summary:
 

the first thing we see as we start to read the article is this claim as the first opening setence which states that "Researchers looking at the way British Muslims are represented by the media say they have found that most coverage is negative in tone."

in my opinion i would say that i do agree with the claim however this isnt a fact this is the aurthors ossumtion based their findings, not wrong however thats not to say that there arn't postive representations of british muslims in the media. i know that the article dosent imply that their all negitive but i makes the asumption that most are which would be acurate in my opinion.

i found this point and fact interesting as ive heard this type of worry before , however i myself have never heard of a mosque being built around the uk in my lifetime niether have i ever seen one so i cant say that i can relate the worry of the number of mostques being greater than the number of churches however i do agree with the statement of how its a redicuslious claim.

Future of media

Task 1

In the future I believe that the way in people will consume media and media products will be entirely different to way in which it consumed in this moment in time. Even though media consumption is rapidly evolving and growing at a fast rate I still think that there is more that could be done to make media consumption more developed and evolved.  Over the past 50 years media has grown and evolved at its fastest and in my opinion I think we are now at the peak of media consumption technology, however I do believe that there’s a lot more that can be done to move forward in media technology and make it even bigger that it already is.

What’s next for media technology? 

 I believe that the next step in media consumption is virtual reality, I say this because of the success with gaming virtual reality helmets that are in the works things such as the oculus rift which in my opinion is just a first draft for vital reality some games companies have even started making a whole body virtual reality suite that makes you be able to feel things and give the illusion of actually feeling pain and your surroundings. There are a number of different companies trying to move into the virtual reality age. This movement will help audiences embrace and fully enjoy their games to the maximum and truly believe in the next 5 – 10 years virtual reality will be fully up and working and this will benefit the gaming media greatly. Companies such as Sony have made plans for the PlayStation 4 for include virtual reality sometime in the near future. 

Task 2

With the increase of music being download via the internet and electronically the sales of CDs in my opinion would drop as people are more likely to download or stream from there phone, tablets and laptops instead on buying an actual CD this is down to convince and the fact that its easier and instant.

Overall the internet is probably the main way that artist’s institutions make their money. The ways of getting music these days through the internet makes people less likely to go the shop and buy CD this also gives the audiences freedom to get music instantly without traveling or even leaving the house on the other hand this makes us more lazy in the long run.

With the increase of  music being purchased digitally CD sales have dropped and continue to decrease however I think that there is still the select audience that still enjoy that new CD feel and take pleasure from going out and actually buying it. For this reason alone I don’t think that CD sale will grind to a Holt and I believe that people will still continue to buy them even though they could download them and stream them via the internet.

2011 – Lord Justice leveson was appointed in July

2012- The leveson report was published in November Following this was the hacking scandal. 

Leveson believed that the British Media should be questioned about their morals and general culture as he believes people should be allowed to have their privacy eg) people should be able to feel comfortable using their phones without fear of hackers invading their private lives. There was a lot of negative opinions and views about the phone hacking scandal, this is to be expected though given that people want to feel safe and private about things that are nobody business especially the Media. This is how they get their ‘News stories’. The inquires act was published and cost  £5.4 million but  on the other hand this act protects the rights of people privacy , so things like hackers can be punished or at least discouraged from doing what they want.

BBC Charter

The BBC Charter is an agreement that recognises public obligations and editorial independence that it has to follow. it renews every 10 years , it will be renewed in 2016. eight people of high authority from other large media broadcasters, have been appointed  to work with the BBC to assign the new charter. the executive of Yahoo believes that the BBC should cut the license fees as well as the sunday times reported that the BBC should not be chasing after views and should provide more public service programmes instead. 

Channel 4's future  

there is a decrease of advertising on the channel 4. a solution to this problem would be for channel 4 to be more like the BBC and get funds from the direct public subsidy. of com is a company that regulates the rules of what can be shown on television. this means that the channel 4 relies on funds and can have a major change what the channel 4 could show and what it would be not allowed to show due to what people paying for are interested in. as well as another possible solution would be for channel 4 to merge with channel five this can give both channels a chance to synergise and save on cost. channel 4's commercial operations may use the channel for the rights of content for both public service broadcasters effectively.

Jean Baudrillard’s theory and how it is applied in my media text.

For my media text I have picked is GTA because I believe it shows what Baudrillard’s theory means when he says Divisions between ‘real’ and simulation have collapsed, therefore an illusion of an object is no longer possible because the real object is no longer there. This is known as ‘Hyperreality’

The whole game itself shows a ‘hyperreality’ as it shows a dream way of life way beyond what reality is. As in the game allows you to be violent and break the law and do pretty much anything you want, this shows younger teens a bad influence which is commonly heard comment about this game.

 I guess this is where the line to reality and hyperreality mainly crossover with GTA IV and other violent games like this as parents fear that their child may go out and steal, kill and even buy prostitutes because they do it on their games. PlayStation games such as GTA which have a lot of violence in them often have a lot of bad press, and the media believe that people will commit these immoral actions which they have seen in there videogames.

It has actually been proven that only a small percentage of cases have people have committed such crimes due to the violent games that they play. For example one of the prime examples is a man who believed he was still in the game and therefore would gain points for carrying out illegal tasks; the worst crime he committed was murder when he killed his best friend. His argument was that he had been told to do it, meaning that he genuinely though he was in the games when in fact he was in his reality not the hyperrealism created by the game. This is just one of few cases that show that some people cannot distinguish the difference between the game and the reality. 

Simulacra

When a sign loses it relation to reality, it begins to simulate a simulation.

Simulation

The process in which a representation of something comes to replace the thing which is actually being represented. The representation that becomes more than ‘the real thing’.

Hypereality:

Divisions between ‘real’ and simulation has collapsed, therefore an illusion of an object is no longer possible because the real object is no longer there.

the original 'Columbine Shootings were allegedly influenced by the videogame Doom, which of course is a fantasy FPS game and lets the user be in the 'eyes' of the character which is what films are so successful at. Which is a paradox and postmodern conundrum of immense proportions?

Video games are meant to hypnotise people for a bit and perhaps escape from reality but it does not substitute for reality. Is also another thought on the theory
